it would just be unbalanced and i say add the AP bombs at tier 6. Also, don't put them on the langley, it will make it even more powerful because the fighters are superior, you have 2 less torpedo bombers then the Hosho and you could get like 4 citadels per strike on CV's or CL's. this also introduces more options, such as should i give up some HE bombs for AP bombs to cause more damage and less chance of fire, ect. this will then make up for the amount of torpedo bombers the Japanese Carriers have. with the AP bombs the potential 21 Dive bomber will be much better when you can get citadels, but due to the questionable accuracy only 10 will hit on a good manual strike and only about 3 will pierce the citadel. You can strip away the layers to see exactly where the citadel is located.I feel like adding AP bombs will balance the American carriers.
OP, are you getting normal pens or overpens? It is also possible you are coming out of the side of the ship since they are generally shaped like a V.Īlso to see where the citadels are on ships you can look at them through the tech tree and armor viewer in game. In the case of the OPs question I suspect this is a matter of the citadel being too far below the armored flight deck of the ship and exploding above it. The bomb either travels to fast and doesn't explode in the citadel or it doesn't pass through enough armor to actually arm the bomb. This is why lots of AP bombs just overpen on CLs.
Add this in to the equation of bomb/shell arming distances based on speed and you can explode above or below the citadel of the ship. This will greatly influence what parts of the ship you actually hit and at what angle you hit them at. Since bomb position is determined solely by the size of the reticle and RNG the closer you are to the water/ship the wider the angle the bomb has to travel to reach that RNG determined spot.
What is affected by drop height is the angle of attack of the bombs. In addition bomb dispersion is not affected by height or speed, just the size of the aiming reticle and RNG. Bomb speed is not determined by drop height. Some slight misinformation in this thread.
